Since Charles Bally’s Traite de stylistique française , collocation has continued to provoke interest as a research subject. The contrastive features and conventional features of collocations have aroused academic curiosity around the world. However, while there have been many studies, few have looked at the wider environment surrounding collocations. This paper examines collocational relationships on a syntagmatic axis, in other words, collocation chains, which represent a new combinatorial relationship added to an already existing collocation. This paper undertakes to draw up a first typology and to make an initial analysis of this phenomenon.
