Prezentacja i wdrażanie wybranych elementów fonetyki suprasegmentalnej na lektoratach języka angielskiego

Abstract

In spite of growing interest in the teaching of pronunciation, some aspects of prosody are ignored and neglected, among other things, at the course in English for Polish students of Russian Philology. The paper concentrates on the issue of teaching selected suprasegmental phenomena to this particular group. Firstly, the results of the experiment evaluating the level of competence in English suprasegmental phonetics of 20, third year students of Russian are outlined. Next, the source of errors is examined. Finally, the paper presents exercises on most problematic elements of spoken English such as sentence stress, rhythm, linking, weak and strong forms and utterance melody.
