Abstract

The presentation will concern the role of local environment in the process of supporting and developing creative potential among disabled and elder people. The idea of day support centers as a space for undertaking joint activities to prevent social exclusion of groups of disabled and elder people will be presented. Based on good practices, it will be shown how to give meaning and value to activities undertaken by disadvantaged groups.The concept of carrying out educational and social projects proposed in the speech through day support centers functioning in the local community refer to broadly understood assumptions of social pedagogy by Helena Redlińska. Social projects are challenges for the local community. They constitute a prospect for building solidarity and strengthening social bonds. Undertaking joint initiatives which can constitute an area for meeting the Other One give meaning of mutual service (according to the concept by A. Kamiński and H. Redlińska) for other human there for highlight ting the important task that the local community has to carry out towards all its inhabitants, regardless his or her status, age or disability. An example of mutually undertaken initiatives in a local environment and a good practice is the idea of the “Intergenerational inspirations” project which will be directed towards the participants of day support centers for adults with intellectual disability and for a group of elderly people.
