Abstract

This essay analyzes Wojciech Górecki’s reportage. By placing his work in the context of other reportage on the Caucasus, it points out important characteristics of Górecki’s poetics. In her analysis, Horodecka applies the concept geographic continuum of representation to define the particular situation of the tripartite structure of Górecki’s Caucasus cyle: Planeta Kaukaz, Toast za przodków, and Abchazja. Geographic continuum of representation is a concept that also describes the internal order of journalistic archives. On this level of interpretation, the continuum depends on Górecki’s work, his intensive gathering of historical and anthropological data collected from a variety of sources (conversations, reading, observations), and the way he arranges this material into a dense description of reality. The author of the essay demonstrates that this continuum reveals the particular characteristics of authorial strategy used to represent a region, or in other words, how space is textualized.
