    Abstrakt: The paper presents the rhythm of a typical day of military service in Polish military camps and garrisons in the 18th century. The author discusses the issue of time awareness among servicemen. Military routine was based not only on bureaucratic regulations but also on a variety of events occurring regularly in military camps and garrisons. Sunrise and sunset were the moments when trumpeters gave signals for the reveille, morning prayer, chorum, establishing the password, and tattoo. The occurrence of the most important elements of military daily routine was determined by the length of the day in different seasons of the year. In summer months, soldiers were on duty much longer (even 17 hours) than in winter when their day lasted for 6 hours only.
