Abstract

This volume collects materials from the National Interdisciplinary Scientific Conference “The Place and Role of the University in the 21st Century. Science – Culture – The Local Dimension” („Miejsce i rola uniwersytetu w XXI wieku. Nauka – kultura – wymiar lokalny”), which was held on October 5 and 6, 2017, at the Academic Cultural Center, located in the new campus of the University of Białystok. The session was organised by the Department of Philological Studies “East-West” a part of the Faculty of Philology, University of Białystok (UofB). The meeting was interdisciplinary. It was attended by 40 researchers (Polish philologists, economists, historians, physicists, chemists, lawyers, educators, English philologists, and cultural studies scholars) from eight scientific centers (Białystok, Warsaw, Częstochowa, Bydgoszcz, Cracow, Lublin, and Szczecin). 25 presentations were given, of which we are publishing 20. The conference was under the patronage of HE Rector of the UofB, Prof. Robert Ciborowski, who opened the sessions together with Prof. Jarosław Ławski (Chairman of the Organising Committee). The researchers debated – in the face of the revolutionary reform of higher education and science in Poland starting on October 1, 2018 (the so-called Jarosław Gowin's "reform") – over the direction and meaning of changes, and in particular on the question of the fate of small and local universities. The following research questions were discussed: ‒ The university and its scientific and social mission in the 21st century. ‒ The place of the university in the local environment; universities in the social environment and in small towns. ‒ The international dimension of the university's functioning: between localness and internationalization. ‒ Humanities and experimental sciences – their place at the university. ‒ Demographic, civilizational and technological changes and the functioning of the university. ‒ “Reform” and “change” as determinants of Polish universities' functioning after 1989. ‒ The place and role of rectors, deans, and directors of research institutions. ‒ The university and academic teaching in the world of the contemporary culture's values. ‒ The universities' structure, management, and staffing policy. ‒ The parametric evaluation and the evaluation of the social value of the university. ‒ The university in the multicultural environment. ‒ The “market” of science or “the social mission in the local environment”; competition or cooperation of universities. The panel “The university in the local and global environment” (October 5, 2017) was a part of the session. It was chaired by Lech Pilarski (Polish Radio Białystok) and Prof. Jarosław Ławski (Faculty of Philology). Its record can be found at the end of the volume. On October 6, the guests of the Conference took part in the performance “A Musical Journey Without Borders” („Muzyczna podróż bez granic”), prepared by the Odessa National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, on the stages of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic. This volume collects the submitted studies and essays, grouped in seven chapters: Projects, Diagnoses, Remedies, Historical projections, Localness, Education/Educations, Views from the Panel. The conference and the publication of the volume were supported financially and organisationally by the authorities of the University of Białystok.

Dieser Band enthält Materialien von der nationalen interdisziplinären wissenschaftlichen Konferenz „Ort und Rolle der Universität im 21. Jahrhundert. Wissenschaft – Kultur – lokale Dimension“, die am 5. Und 6. Oktober 2017 im Universitätskulturzentrum auf dem neuen Universitätsgelände in Białystok stattfand. Die Veranstaltung wurde von der Abteilung für Philologische Forschung „Ost – West” der Fakultät für Philologie der Universität Białystok organisiert. Das Treffen war interdisziplinär. An dem Treffen nahmen 40 Forscher (Polonisten, Ökonomen, Historiker, Physiker, Chemiker, Juristen, Pädagogen, Anglisten, Kulturexperten) aus acht Zentren (Białystok, Warszawa, Częstochowa, Bydgoszcz, Kraków, Lublin, Szczecin) teil. Es wurden 25 Vorträge gehalten, von denen wir 20 veröffentlichen. Die Konferenz stand unter der Schirmherrschaft von seinem Magnificence Rektor der Universität von Białystok, Robert Ciborowski, der die Sitzung zusammen mit Prof. Jarosław Ławski (Vorsitzender des Organisationskomitees) begann. Forscher haben sich gefragt – angesicht der revolutionären Reform der höheren Bildung und Wissenschaft in Polen ab 1. Oktober 2018 (Jarosław Gowin „Reform”) – über Richtung und Sinn des Wandels und insbesondere über die Frage des Schicksals kleiner Universitäten. Folgende Forschungsfragen wurden gestellt: ‒ Universität und ihre wissenschaftliche und soziale Mission im 21. Jahrhundert. ‒ Ort der Universität in der lokalen Umgebung; Universitäten in der sozialen und provinziellen Umgebung. ‒ Die internationale Dimension des Funktionierens der Universität: zwischen Lokalität und Internationalisierung. ‒ Geisteswissenschaften und experimentelle Wissenschaften – ihre Position an der Universität. ‒ Demographische, zivilisatorische und technologische Veränderungen und das Funktionieren der Universität. ‒ „Reform“ und „Wandel“ als bestimmende Faktoren für das Funktionieren der polnischen Universitäten nach 1989. ‒ Position und Rolle von Rektoren, Dekanen und Direktoren von Forschungseinrichtungen. ‒ Universität und akademische Lehre in der Welt der Werte der zeitgenössischen Kultur. ‒ Struktur, Hochschulmanagement, Hochschulpersonalpolitik. ‒ Parametrische Bewertung und Bewertung des sozialen Wertes der Universität. ‒ Universität in einem multikulturellen Umfeld. ‒ „Markt“ der Wissenschaft oder „soziale Mission in der lokalen Umwelt“; Wettbewerb oder Kooperation der Universitäten. Teil der Sitzung war das Panel „Universität in der lokalen und globalen Umwelt“ (5. Oktober 2017) unter der Leitung von Lech Pilarski (Polish Radio Bialystok) und Prof. Jarosław Ławski (Fakultät der Philologie). Die Aufzeichnung dieses Panels befindet sich am Ende des Bandes. Am 6. Oktober nahmen die Gäste der Konferenz an dem Spektakel „Musikalische Reise ohne Grenzen“ teil, das vom Nationaltheater für Oper und Ballett aus Odessa vorbereitet und auf der Bühne der Oper und Philharmonie von Podlachien aufgeführt wurde. Dieser Band enthält vorgelegte Studien, Essays und Skizzen, die in den sieben Kapiteln zusammengefasst sind: Projekte, Diagnosen, Remedia, Historische Ansichten, Lokalität, Bildung / Bildungen, Getäfelte Aufnahmen. Die Konferenz und die Veröffentlichung des Bandes wurden von den Behörden der Universität Białystok finanziell und organisatorisch unterstützt.

Le volume présenté rassemble des documents de la Conférence scientifique interdisciplinaire nationale « Place et rôle de l'université au 21ème siècle. Science - culture – dimension locale », qui a eu lieu les 5 et 6 Octobre 2017 au Centre Culturel Universitaire, situé sur le nouveau campus de l'Université de Bialystok. La session a été organisée par la Chaire de la recherche philologique « Est – Ouest » de la Faculté de philologie de l'Université de Bialystok. La réunion était de nature interdisciplinaire. Quarante chercheurs (philologues polonais, économistes, historiens, physiciens, chimistes, juristes, éducateurs, anglistes et experts culturels) de huit centres (Białystok, Varsovie, Częstochowa, Bydgoszcz, Cracovie, Lublin et Szczecin) y ont participé. Au cours de la conférence, 25 présentations ont été entendues, dont nous publions 20. La conférence s’est tenue sous le patronage de SE Recteur de l'Université de Bialystok, prof. Robert Ciborowski, qui a ouvert la session avec le prof. Jarosław Ławski (président du comité d'organisation). Les chercheurs se sont demandés – face à la réforme révolutionnaire de l'enseignement supérieur et de la science en Pologne, qui débute le 1er Octobre 2018 (« réforme » de Jaroslaw Gowin) – sur la direction et le sens des changements, et en particulier sur la question du sort des petites universités locales. Les questions de recherche suivantes ont été entreprises: ‒ L’université et sa mission scientifique et sociale au 21ème siècle. ‒ La place de l'université dans l'environnement local; les universités dans l'environnement social et provincial. ‒ La dimension internationale du fonctionnement universitaire: entre le caractère local et internationalisation. ‒ Sciences humaines et sciences expérimentales – leur place à l'université. ‒ Les changements démographiques, civilisationnels et technologiques et le fonctionnement de l'université. ‒ « La réforme » et « le changement » en tant que déterminants du fonctionnement des universités polonaises après 1989. ‒ Place et le rôle des recteurs, des doyens et des directeurs d'instituts de recherche. ‒ L’université et l’enseignement universitaire dans le monde des valeurs de la culture contemporaine. ‒ Structure, gestion universitaire, politique du personnel des universités. ‒ Evaluation paramétrique et évaluation de la valeur sociale de l'université. ‒ Université dans un environnement multiculturel. ‒ « Le marché » de la science ou « une mission sociale dans l'environnement local »; la concurrence ou la coopération des universités. Une partie de la session était le panel « Université dans l'environnement local et mondial » (le 5 octobre 2017), conduit par le rédacteur Lech Pilarski (Polskie Radio Białystok) et le prof. Jarosław Ławski (Faculté de philologie). Son dossier se trouve à la fin du volume. Le 6 octobre, les invités de la conférence ont participé au spectacle « Voyage musical sans frontières » préparé par le Théâtre national d’opéra et de ballet d’Odessa sur la scène de l’Opéra et la Philharmonie de Podlasie. Le volume présenté rassemble des études, des essais et des croquis soumis, regroupés en sept chapitres : Projets, Diagnoses, Remèdes, Plans historiques, Caractère local, Education, Présentations au cours du panel. La conférence et la publication du volume ont été soutenues financièrement et organisationnellement par les autorités de l'Université de Bialystok.
