Abstract

The weather forecast is a scientific method of prediction which leans on rational premises and concerns atmospheric facts which will be shaped in future. Weather forecasts are classified with regard to: 1) time of prognosis, 2) prediction method and 3) area, which prognosis concerns. The prognosis of weather as public information has to be represented in a useful way, convenient for users. The results of weather forecast are the most often pictured in graphic figures, eg. in television, press or internet editions. Only in radio broadcasts prognosis are passed on in verbal figures. The process of working out the weather forecast is the investigation of real conditions and data which come from numeric prognoses. The larger quantity of data the weathermen administer, the more accurately they can choose the rule of decoding the weather phenomena and more easily qualify the future. Every weather diagnosis is therefore a hybrid which contains subjective elements (resulting with knowledge) as well as weathermen’s experience. Informing is a basic function of the weather forecast so the main forms of the development of basic issue are descriptive forms and usage caveats or arguing. The prognosis could contain elements of persuasion and journalistic style. The weather forecast texts are void of emotions, but they can invoke them.
