Etymologia i konotacje nazw drogich kamieni w utworach Adama Mickiewicza i Juliusza Słowackiego (na przykładzie kryształu)

Abstract

The article’s main goal is to describe the way crystal is presented in 19th-century literature. The analysis will focus on characterizing not only the conventionalized picture, pointing out the attributes which are recognised as essential in terms of average language’s users, semi gemstones (in this case crystal) but most of all on describing the picture which is created in the 19th century poetic text. The presented conceptualization requires recreating of whole conceptual model of the word crystal, paying attention to etymology, imagery, cultural realities and text’s connotations. As the basis I use data excerpted from Adam Mickiewicz’s works (I–IV) and Juliusz Slowacki’s works (I–IV). The conducted semantic-lexical analysis presents the linguistic picture of the word crystal in the 19th century and show the evolutionary or even revolutionary character of the language used in texts from of the same literary period.
