Poetyka Eugeniusza Tkaczyszyna-Dyckiego. Formy artykulacji doświadczenia geobiograficznego

Abstract

Celem pracy jest rekonstrukcja poetyckiej autobiografii Tkaczyszyna-Dyckiego przez pryzmat doświadczenia przestrzennego oraz interpretacja jej za pomocą narzędzi geopoetologicznych. Ze względu na autobiograficzny charakter twórczości TkaczyszynaDyckiego do grona interpretowanych tekstów włączone zostały nie tylko utwory poetyckie, ale również komentarze odautorskie i wywiady. Stworzenie zróżnicowanego i otwartego korpusu odczytywanych tekstów wynikało z urozmaiconego i transgranicznego charakteru twórczości Tkaczyszyna-Dyckiego. Przyjąłem tezę o płynnej tożsamości podmiotu, który kreuje swoją biografię dążąc do zacierania granic między bohaterem mówiącym w wierszach a rzeczywistym autorem. Pierwszy rozdział pracy poświęcam rozważaniom teoretycznym. W trzech rozdziałach interpretacyjnych rozpatruję poezję Tkaczyszyna-Dyckiego ze względu na rolę przestrzeni w kreowaniu poetyckiej autobiografii. W rozdziale drugim problematyzuję twórczość Tkaczyszyna-Dyckiego ze względu na jej autobiograficzny i geopoetycki charakter, wskazuję tym samym na związek tej poezji z rzeczywistym miejscem i jego poetyckie przeobrażenie. Praca pamięci autora zakotwiczona jest we wspomnieniu rodzinnych stron, na co wskazuje odwoływanie się w wierszach do topografii miejsca autobiograficznego i przestrzeni domu rodzinnego. W rozdziale trzecim problematyzuję przestrzeń jako kategorię poetyki, co pozwala ukazać Tkaczyszyna-Dyckiego jako poetę często stosującego tropy o charakterze spacjalnym, wśród których wyróżnia się konceptualizacja poezji jako przestrzeni geograficzno-tekstowej. W wyobraźni poetyckiej autora dominują motywy o strukturze dwoistej i rozszczepionej, służące do wyrażania wszelkiego rodzaju antynomii i paradoksów egzystencji. W czwartym rozdziale interpretuję poezję Tkaczyszyna-Dyckiego jako formę tekstowo-realnej egzystencji, która opiera się na zamieszkiwaniu tekstu. Twórczość literacka okazuje się być aktywnością zróżnicowaną, spełniającą różne role, poczynając od eskapistycznej, służącej ucieczce od świata, przez etyczną, służącą mówieniu o doświadczeniu wykluczenia i marginalizacji, po ludyczną, czyniącą z poezji zabawę. Interpretacja poezji Tkaczyszyna-Dyckiego przy pomocy kategorii geopoetologicznych służy ukazaniu twórcy jako wyczulonego na geograficzny konkret i doświadczenie przestrzeni jak również samoświadomego mediacyjnego charakteru ekspresji poetyckiej. Traktowanie przestrzeni jako kategorii poetyki pozwala wskazać na geograficzny i konkretny, a więc geobiograficzny charakter tej twórczości. Jednocześnie perspektywa ta wspiera poetologiczną analizę skupioną na języku i formalnych aspektach poezji. Tkaczyszyn-Dycki okazuje się być poetą kreującym swoją autobiografię jako rodzaj geograficzno-tekstowej przestrzeni.

This aim of this dissertation is to interpret the oeuvre of Eugeniusz Tkaczyszyn-Dycki through the prism of geobiographical experience that permeates it. The analyzed material comprises poetic texts, as well as author's notes and interviews. The works of Tkaczyszyn-Dycki are autobiographical and narrate the author's youth in which the experience of space and place played an important role. The early period of the writer's life was bound with Wólka Krowicka, a village in the Podkarpackie voivodeship. The experience of borderlands as the space of intersection of different languages and cultures underscores Tkaczyszyn-Dycki's autobiography. Due to its Ukrainian roots, the author's family was deported and symbolically ostracized by the Polish community. The poet presents these events in his works in a two-fold manner: narrating his family history, as well as reflecting upon the role these harrowing experiences played in the formation of his identity. My dissertation makes use of grounded theory, which assumes the adjustment of theoretical tools to the analyzed material. Owing to the autobiographical nature of Tkaczyszyn-Dycki's poetry, which thematizes the history of borderlands and the formation of writer's poetic identity, I refer to Ryszard Nycz's poetics of experience. Inspired by Nycz's reflections, I read the poetry of Tkaczyszyn-Dycki as a literary, cultural and experiential phenomenon. This approach is reflected in the organization of the chapters, which despite their syncretic nature focus on three major problems: geobiography, the poetics of space, and “inhabiting the text”. The structure of the dissertation is dictated by the critical tools entrenched in the cultural literary theory, as well as critical studies devoted to the poetry of Tkaczyszyn-Dycki. The first chapter states the research aims and explicates the adopted theory. The second chapter analyzes the oeuvre of Tkaczyszyn-Dycki concentrating on its autobiographical and geopoetic character, and to further these aims it relies on Elżbieta Rybicka's concept of geobiography and Jacek Kaczmarek's notion of topobiography. It endeavors to reconstruct an autobiographical place focusing on Wólka Krowicka and the surroundings with the use of theoretical tools developed by Małgorzata Czermińska. Interpreting the poems that co-create the autobiographical place, I reat the space of Tkaczyszyn-Dycki's home as haunted by the memory of the ancestors. The poet tells his tale of maladjustment through the metaphor of homelessness, which was subjected to critical analysis from the very beginning of his career. I read the motif of homelessness as a ubiquitous metaphor of maladjustment in the author's writing, yet I juxtapose it with a later tendency in his poetry to talk of an autobiographical place from a broader perspective, which I argue constitutes a symbolic coming back home. The once called Przemyskie voivodeship is the home to many rivers that are addressed in the poetry of Tkaczyszyn-Dycki, therefore the last part of Chapter Two is dedicated to these rivers as co-creators of the poet's geobiography. The third chapter analyzes the metaphors employed by the poet himself and focuses on the poetics of space, schizophrenia and the uniting of identity. I view the creation of space in the poetry of Tkaczyszyn-Dycki as a consistent concept intended to build a geographically and textually heterogeneous space. By the notion of schizophrenia I understand the themes present in the analyzed poetry but also the motif of duplicity and split self, which underscore all types of antinomies and paradoxes. Another literary device, which is spatial in its character, is the process of transferring the authorial I onto the lyrical I and vice versa. I subject to comparative analysis the literary and non-literary texts to demonstrate the way they overlap. I also scrutinize the presence of Tkaczyszyn-Dycki in public space, with special focus placed on the author's meetings. In the fourth chapter I make use of the concept of “inhabiting the text”, by which I understand the author's poetics of experience that encompasses various spheres of textual and real existence. Writing is an important part of the poet's life and plays many functions: 1) escapist—providing an escape from the real world, 2) ethical—narrating the experience of exclusion and marginalization, and 3) ludic—treating poetry as entertainment. Various forms of narrating experience which Eugeniusz Tkaczyszyn-Dycki touches upon in his poetry create the speaking subject that reveals himself as an individual concentrated on the past, melancholic and traumatized, empathetic and sensitive to the mechanisms of exclusion, but also as delighting in comic relief and irony.
