Abstract

In 2017, the „Prelekcje Mistrzowskie” [Master Talks] series of public lectures delivered by prominent authors and specialists in the humanities was launched at the Faculty of Language and Literature of the University of Białystok. Its originator was Prof Jarosław Ławski from the “Wschód – Zachód” [East – West] Chair of Language and Literature Studies. The lectures are coordinated by Dr Krzysztof Korotkich from the same Chair. Lectures in the “Master Talks” series have been delivered, among others, by the poet Wojciech Kass, the novelist Wiesław Myśliwski, the literature researchers Prof Anna Legeżyńska (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań) and Prof Magdalena Popiel (Jagiellonian University, Cracow), and by the painter and teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, Prof Andrzej Strumiłło. All the speakers have been invited to publish their lectures in the new “Master Talks” series of literary studies. The first volume to appear in the series is authored by Wojciech Kass. He read out his essay entitled “Światło jaśnie gość” [Light, the Most Illustrious Guest] in the auditorium of the Faculty of Language and Literature on March 31st, 2017. It was the first-ever presentation of this essay, written in the autumn of 2016 as part of the poet’s diary. In the essay, he strives to determine the place and role of the poet in today’s world in the context of ongoing civilizational process and discusses the role of poetic language. For over an hour, the university and high-school students, literature researchers, writers, and coordinators of cultural activities assembled in the auditorium listened to the lecture – almost baffled by the solemnity of the talk and the speaker’s profound involvement – to the ensuing dialogue between Wojciech Kass and Krzysztof Korotkich, who moderated the meeting. Wojciech Kass (born on September 1st, 1964 in Gdynia) is an author of poems and essays and a diarist. He has published several books of poems: “Do światła” [Towards the Light] (1999); “Jeleń Thorvaldsena” [Thorvaldsen’s Deer] (2000, received the Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna Prize and an award of the Suwałki Literary Association); “Prószenie i pranie” [Sifting and Washing] (2002); “10 Gedichte aus Masurenland” (2003); “Przepływ cieni” [A Flow of Shadows] (2004); “Gwiazda Głóg” [The Hawthorn Star] (2005, nominated for the Wawrzyn Literary Award of Warmia and Masuria); “Pieśń miłości, pieśń doświadczenia” [Song of Love, Song of Experience] (co-authored with Krzysztof Kuczkowski) (2006); “Wiry i sny” [Whirls and Dreams] (2008); “41” (2010); “Ba! i dwadzieścia jeden wierszy” [Ah! Twenty-one poems] (2014); “Przestwór. Godziny” [An Expanse. Hours] (2015, nominated for the Literary Award of the Capital City of Warsaw), and the collection of selected poems “Pocałuj światło. 89 wierszy” [Kiss the Light. 89 poems] (2016). He has authored a study on Czesław Miłosz’s links with the town of Sopot entitled “Aj, moi dawno umarli” [Ow, My Long-Dead Friends] (1996) and the collection of essays “Pęknięte struny pełni. Wokół Konstantego Ildefonsa Gałczyńskiego” [The Broken Strings of Full Moon. Around Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński] (2004). In 2004, he received an award from the literary quarterly “Nowa Okolica Poetów” [The New Circle of Poets] for his achievements as a poet. Other awards include the “Sopocka muza” [The Sopot Muse] award from the Mayor of Sopot (2011) and the “Gloria Artis” silver medal for distinguished artists (2015). He is a member of the Polish Writers’ Association and of the Pen Club. He sits on the editorial board of the bimonthly literary magazine “Topos” since September 1997, Wojciech Kass has been the curator of the Museum of Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński in Pranie, Masovia.

En 2017, une série de conférences publiques d’éminents humanistes et écrivains, intitulée «Lectures des maîtres», a été inaugurée à la faculté de philologie de l’Université de Bialystok. L’initiateur du cycle était prof. Jarosław Ławski de la Chaire de Recherches Philologiques «Est – Ouest». L’organisation des réunions est coordonnée par Dr Krzysztof Korotich de la même chaire. Dans le cadre du cycle des invités des «Lectures des maîtres» en 2017 étaient, entre autres, le poète Wojciech Kass, le romancier Wiesław Myśliwski, les chercheurs littéraires prof. Anna Legeżyńska (Université Adam Mickiewicz, Poznań) et prof. Magdalena Popiel (Université Jagiellonne, Cracovie), le peintre Andrzej Strumiłło, professor de l’Académie des Beaux-Arts de Cracovie. On a proposé à tous les conférenciers la publication de leurs conférences dans la nouvelle série scientifique et littéraire «Lectures des maîtres». Le volume de Wojciech Kass ouvre cette série. Wojciech Kass a fait lecture de son essai Un gars éclairé dans l’auditorium de la Faculté de Philologie le 31 mars 2017. C’était la première présentation de ce traité, qui a été faite à l’automne 2016 en tant que notes de journal. L’auteur y fait l’analise de la place et du rôle du poète dans le monde contemporain dans le contexte des processus civilisationnels, ainsi que du rôle du langage poétique. Pendant plus d’une heure, les étudiants, les élèves des lycées, des chercheurs littéraires, des écrivains, des animateurs culturels – un peu surpris par la gravité des paroles et l’implication du conférencier – ont écouté la conférence et une courte conversation avec Wojciech Kass animée par Krzysztof Korotkich. Wojciech Kass (né le 1er septembre 1964 à Gdynia) est un poète, essayiste et mémorialiste. Il a publié les volumes: Vers la lumière (1999), Le Cerf de Thorvaldsen (2000, Prix Kazimiera Iłłakowiczówna et Prix de l’Association littéraire à Suwalki); Saupoudrage er lavage (2002); 10 Gedichte aus Masurenland (2003); La marée d’ombres (2004); L’étoile Aubépine (2005, nomination pour le prix littéraire de Warmia et Mazury – Wawrzyn); Chanson d’amour, chanson d’expérience (avec Krzysztof Kuczkowski) (2006); Tourbillons et rêves (2008); 41 (2010); Bah! Vingt et une lignes (2014); Expanse. Heures (2015, nomination pour le Prix Littéraire de la Capitale de Varsovie) et une sélection Embrasse la lumière. 89 poèmes (2016). Il est l’auteur de l’étude sur les liens de Czesław Miłosz avec Sopot Aj, mes sont mort depuis longtems (1996) et une collection d’essais Cordes fissurées de la pleine lune. Il appartient à l’Association des écrivains polonais et le Pen Club. Il fait partie du comité de rédaction du bimestriel littéraire «Topos». Depuis septembre 1997, il est professeur assistant au Musée Konstanty Ildefons Galczynski à Pranie en la Mazurie.
