Podstawowe założenia Społeczno-Obywatelskiej Ligi Kobiet w świetle „Mody i Życia Praktycznego” (1946-1951)

Abstract

In Poland after the Second World War only those political parties which were subordinated to communist power and did not attempt to set new directions for action were allowed to function. The same rule applied to socio-civic organizations such as the League of Women established in 1945. The organization aspired to be perceived as an institution with a very broad spectrum of activities and concerned about the whole range of issues related to womenʼs lives. The League aimed at promoting and respecting womenʼs rights as well as enhancing womenʼs social and political activity in post-war Poland. It was pointed out that the unity of all women, regardless of their age, place of residence or educational background, is essential to achieve these objectives. In order to fulfill the goals, the Socio-Civic League of Women began to publish its own books and articles in womenʼs magazines. That is why the postulates of the League were often presented in “Moda i Życie Praktyczne” (Fashion and Practical Life) – one of the most popular womenʼs magazines in communist Poland.
