Abstract

The article oscillates between two words – “collection” and “illustration”, which – according to the author – lead to an important thread in Gloger’s activity, that is, the visuals he collected for many years. Engravings, drawings (both his own and of befriended artists and amateurs), photographs, news clippings, reproductions cut from magazines and books constitute the private iconographic archive of the researcher from Jeżewo. This aspect of Gloger’s work leads to another important thread in his activities, to which so far little attention has been devoted. Despite the lack of sources and only few remaining materials, the author of the text is trying to determine the nature of Gloger’s collection, ways of collecting, as well as the role that iconographic materials played in the work of the ethnographer.
