Idea prawdy regulatywnej w wybranych teoriach językoznawstwa

Abstract

Rozprawa ma na celu przedstawienie problematyki idei prawdy regulatywnej w perspektywie teorii. Na kartach tej pracy zamierzam pokazać, czym jest tytułowa filozoficzna idea prawdy, oraz dlaczego to pojęcie może być skutecznie rozważane w relacji do nauki, jaką jest językoznawstwo. Jest to możliwe m.in. dzięki powiązaniu tej szczególnej relacji między myślą a światem z postawą filozoficzną określaną mianem fallibilizmu oraz jej metodologiczną konkretyzacją w postaci popperowskiego falsyfikazjonizmu. Określając wymagania, jakie omawiana idea prawdy regulatywnej stawia w relacji do języka, postaram się wykazać, że ten jest w stanie im sprostać. Wyselekcjonowanymi teoriami do tego celu są systemy określane w polskiej literaturze specjalistycznej jako należące do tzw. paradygmatu falsyfikacjonistycznego tj.: gramatyka struktur frazowych (PSG), program minimalistyczny (MP) oraz dodatkowo teoria naturalnego metajęzyka semantycznego (NMS). W świetle idei prawdy regulatywnej jak i omawianych teorii język jawi się jako system racjonalny, uniwersalny, i nieskończony.

The dissertation at hand aims at presenting the concept of truth as a regulative idea in the perspective of selected linguistic theories. What will be demonstrated is the specificity of Kantian idea of regulative principle, how it was associated with the idea of truth within the field of philosophy of science, and how it can be successfully connected in reference to contemporary linguistics. All this is possible due to the relation between thoughts / theories / hypothesis and the reality in the realm of the philosophical doctrine named fallibilism and, in particular, its more concrete avatar in the form of Popperian falsificationism. As will be shown, the idea of regulative truth poses certain requirements that language has to meet, and the central claim of this work is that human language indeed fulfills those requirements. The theoretical constructs selected for this purpose are: phrase structure grammar (PSG), the minimalist program (MP) and natural metalanguage theory (NMS). In light of the idea of regulative truth, the pursuit of this unachievable goal should in principle be infinite. All of this is possible due to the fundamental properties of human language, its rationality, universality, creativity and infinity.
