Madeleine Korbel Albright. Badaczka i dyplomatka

Abstract

The aim of the article is to present the figure of the first US female Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright (born Marie Jana Korbel). The author describes in this article the biography of the prominent politician, starting with the family situation of the Korbel family, and mentioning the diplomatic work of the future Secretary of State’s father. Then the article goes on to present her teenage years, when the family came to the United States, and Madeleine come into contact with the problems of immigrants’ assimilation. The article discusses Albright’s education and career development until receiving the prestigious post of the Secretary of State, as well as her later years, in parallel with quoting information on the American politician’s private life. The author also mentions the media scandal associated with Albright’s Jewish roots, of which the Secretary of State had not known. Having learned from the media about her origins, the politician decided independently to determine her family’s history, which led to the confirmation of the journalists’ version. The article discusses also Albright’s friendships with other people involved in the world of politics, including Hillary Clinton and Vaclav Havel.
