Dyplomacja polska a sprowadzenie prochów generała Józefa Bema do Tarnowa w 1929 roku

Abstract

In the years 1927–1929, both Ministry of Military Affairs and Ministry of Foreign Affairs were trying to bring ashes of general Józef Bem (ferik Murad Pasza) from Syria to Poland. The article presents measures taken by Polish diplomacy, which finally resulted in bringing the remains of the national hero of Poland, Hungary and Turkey to his hometown – Tarnów. The main part in this act was played by the chiefs of Polish diplomatic missions in Turkey (Kazimierz Papée, Kazimierz Olszowski, Walerian Łopatto) and Jerusalem (Tytus Zbyszewski). Among foreign diplomats, the exceptional assistance was granted by Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Tevfik Rüştü Bejand and the French ambassador to Turkey – Charles de Chambrun. It is worth mentioning that an important role was played by military officers, especially Chief of Artillery Department from Ministry of Military Affairs, Colonel Emil Przedrzymirski-Krukowiecz, who was the leader of Polish delegation to Syria.
