Creation of the English-language versions of the articles published in the „Białostockie Studia Prawnicze” [Białystok Legal Studies] funded under the contract no. 548/P-DUN/2016 and 548/1/P-DUN/2016 from resources of the Minister of Science and Higher Education dedicated to the popularisation of science.pl
Th e article attempts to reconstruct basic assumptions of community justice – an emerging paradigm of penal policy, which gains popularity in Western Europe and the USA. Th e model assumes the empowerment of citizens in matters related to criminal justice, including various forms of public participation, aimed at reclaiming conflicts thus far appropriated by professionals and institutions. The article discusses both advantages and disadvantages of this “democratization” of penal policy.pl
