Abstract

The press played an essential role in the political life in the first half of the 20th century. It shaped the public opinion, performed an information and educational function. The National Camp had a developed press system. The main magazines included: “Gazeta Warszawska”, “Słowo Polskie”, “Kurier Poznański”. The creation of an enemy played an important role in the political communication of the National Camp. Apart from Germans, Jews were regarded as the main opponents. In the papers, the Jewish politics and politicians were assessed negatively. They were accused of the lack of loyalty towards Poland and of actions aimed at the weakening of the defence of the national security. Unfavourable decisions regarding the territory of the Polish state were ascribed to by their influence. They were also accused of cooperation with communists from Soviet Russia. In the internal politics they were allegedly striving after provoking chaos, riots and economic destabilization. Their purpose was to obtain autonomy and to build a state called Judeopolonia. In order to achieve it they were also destroying Polish culture. The Jewish press as well as the Polish liberal and socialist press polemicized with such accusations.
