Abstract

The article presents the Basilians’ prints on superstition, common in the eighteenth century in whole Europe, against which the Church fought. This is reflected not only in the content of printed sermons, catechisms, and other printed materials of a religious nature, but also in missionary and educational activities. The publishing of texts describing various kinds of superstitions had a specific purpose: the monks warned against them, mocked them openly or in a hidden way as they wanted to dissuade their readers from different harmful procedures. By printing the texts that characterized superstitions, beliefs and customs, the Basilians became the intermediaries between contemporary researchers and the eighteenth-century “colloquial” culture.
