Проблема личности в ранних романах В. Каверина

Abstract

The morally philosophical base of V. Kaverin’s novels The Scandalist (1928), The Unknown Artist (1931), Wish Fulfilment (1934-1936) and Two Captains (1938-1944) creates the philosophical synthesis programmed by the author in the dynamics of the first modernist novels. One of the most important questions V. Kaverin is concerned with is the problem of personality developing under the conditions of continuity and flow of the real world. In the centre of narration in the early novels the author depicts a creative personality who is keen on work, believes in the future, and makes scientific and life heroic deeds. This character is opposed by antiheroes who hide their unmoral and aggressive nature which cannot be seen and discovered by everybody and at once. Kaverin’s worldview has a peculiarity according to which the Evil gets an opposition from the site of positive characters although not every man of honour can conquer the world of disgrace, but only the heroemiurge, the character who evolves out of the group of positive characters and who is deeply rooted in the image of rebels. Thus, Kaverin’s neo myth is oriented on the significant cultural archetypes ascending in the European culture to the world of neoromanticism with two opposing levels, with two opposing types of characters who reflect the contrasting worlds.
