„Mapy czasem kłamią”. Ksenofobia i otwartość kulturowa w powieści Jaroslava Rudiša Niebo pod Berlinem

Abstract

This paper provides a basis for a discussion of Jaroslav Rudíš’s prose debut Niebo pod Berlinem. The action of Niebo pod Berlinem takes place in the city, which becomes for him and his protagonist Petra Bema, a metaphor for the city, the city of the modern world, which he sees as a multicultural phenomenon, eclectic, growing from a variety of sources, cultural and civilizational circles, not necessarily European. Rudíš has given us in his prose multicultural society which is the opposite of xenophobia. During his many trips to Berlin, the hero of Rudíš’s fiction strikes up contacts with representatives of different nationalities and ethnic groups, and these meetings usually take on the character of a mutual dialogue, understanding, wilingness to understand, to try to accept otherness.
