Abstract

The temporal structure of the novel Пути небесные by Ivan Shmelev directs the reader’s attention to the significant universal spiritual values of pre-revolutionary Orthodox Russia. “Bright Past” that is axiologically positively assessed, constitutes the opposition to the tragic time of Revolution and World War II. The title motif of the spiritual way illustrates the interior process of the main characters Victor and Daria, and metaphorically prefigures Russia’s path to its future revival.
