Abstract

The motif of trash in L. Ulitskaya’s book has multiple meanings. The word ‘trash’ is usually used for things no longer needed. In the context of this work, objects and people surrounding a person, regardless of the time and material value, acquire a special status – they contain the memory of the past. Near each other and all mixed up, as if in a dustbin, one can find the great and the little, the materialistic and the spiritual. The analysis of the world of objects and relationships allows one to determine what is important for the author and her confessional prose.
