Abstract

Educational foreign travel constituted an important element in the education of young magnates and wealthy nobles of the modern era. In the course of their journeys, young Poles learnt foreign languages, acquired the ability to act properly in polite company, and deepened their knowledge in the fields such as: history, geography, philosophy and warfare. This article aims to present the journey to France conducted by the Zamoyski brothers at the tum of the 17th century. Drawing on appropriate sources (travel diaries and correspondence) the author examines what image of the country - its inhabitants, history, geography, culture and tradition - emerged in the travellers' minds over the period of their study in Paris.
