L’Autre vu par les voyageurs étrangers visitant la Pologne au XVIIIe siècle

Abstract

Travellers always focus their attention on the inhabitants of the places they visit. Otherness leaves no one indifferent, therefore when encountering the 'Other', visitors experience extreme emotions: from curiosity, fascination or awe to puzzlement, repulsion or even fear. The author is interested in the way in which foreigners perceive the 'Other' and in which they construct his image. To this end, she refers to eighteenth century records of travels in Poland.
