Abstract

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, known under the abbreviation of ADHD, occurs all over the world, regardless of the society’s culture or the level of its development. Key symptoms of ADHD are: attention deficit, hyper-impulsiveness and hyperactivity. Despite the fact that scientific research has refuted a theory about the roots of ADHD lying in incorrect relations of the child with the immediate surroundings, still, psycho-social factors may sig¬nificantly increase typical symptoms of hyperkinetic disorder. The aim of the therapy is to lessen the co-existing symptoms of the disorder as well as to reduce the risk of later complications. It is necessary to adapt the surrounding and didactic and educational methods to the specific needs of the child. In therapeutic work it is advisable to take into consideration several dimensions: arranging the child’s world in order, elimination of chaos from the nearest child’s surrounding, setting up a daily timetable, adjusting requirements to the child’s capacity, individual therapy (including pharmacology) and family’s psychotherapy.
