| Abstrakt: | The present study explores a variety of folk motifs found in contemporary Polish poetry in Lithuania. Poems interwoven with “folk melodies” are typical of poets of older and middle generations. The most outstanding contemporary Polish poets in Lithuania drawing on folk traditions in their poetry are Jadwiga Bębnowska, Michał Wołosewicz and to some extent Antoni Kacynel and Barbara Sidorowicz. Folk themes are also developed in the poetry of contemporary poets such as Aleksander Śnieżko, Władysława Orszewska-Kursevićiene and others, who definitely prefer rhyming poetry resembling almost the rhythm of folk songs. Some poets create even songs for local folk bands, thus fostering the long-standing value system and continuing as if the traditions of Maria Konopnicka, Władysław Syrokomla or the regional poetry of the interwar Vilnius. They are deeply attached to their homeland of Wileńszczyzna and beautiful areas of their “small homelands”, appreciating wisdom passed by their ancestors and moral values, often downgraded today (faith, patriotism, cultivation of traditions and customs, respect for work and the beauty of nature and human soul). |
