Warsztaty międzykulturowe w pracy wychowawczej z dziećmi i młodzieżą z rodzin dysfunkcyjnych

Abstract

Dysfunctional families struggle with many problems, including unemployment, incompleteness, large families, economic difficulties, parental ineptitude, and pathologies. Those difficulties have an impact on children’s behaviour and functioning. Young people vent out family problems at school or in a local environment, therefore, institutional support is necessary. The author of this text considers it is important to support children and teenagers from dysfunctional families by making them sensitive to the “Different Boy”. In the specialist day-care centre for children at the Day Care Centre in Bialystok, apart from many educational and therapeutic classes, there were intercultural workshops – meetings with “Przygody Innego” (The Adventures of a Different Boy). Young people from this institution also took part in the workshops entitled “Thematic Games and Activities with Legends and Fairytales of the Podlasie Region”. They realized that awareness of their own identity facilitates self-creation and raises curiosity about what is different. The way getting to know the Different Boy was getting to know each other, and then showing what was great in our culture and the closest surroundings, in order to hear and meet the Different Boy. The main purpose of educational classes was to raise intercultural awareness, develop tolerance and empathy, as well as cooperation in a group and assistance in self-creation.
