Abstrakt: | Andrzej Chryzostom Załuski, coat of arms Junosz, (1648-1711) is a controversial figure - "a scholar, writer; and extra', "an erudite" but also "a cautious player", "ambitious and irritable" and "two-faced and uncertain". A son of Aleksander, Voivode of Rawa, and Katarzyna of the Olszowski family, a sister of Primate Andrzej Olszowski, A. Ch. Załuski studied at Jesuit schools and the Krakow Academy. He traveled to Vienna, Graz, Paris and Rome and studied history, philosophy and law. He became a priest in 1674, then Chancellor of the Court of Maria Kazimiera and Grand Secretary of the Crown. He was granted the dioceses of Kiev (1679), Płock (1691), Warmia (1698), and in 1702, he became the Grand chancellor of the Crown. Accused of secret plotting with Berlin in 1705, he was arrested by August II and imprisoned - he was under PapaI guards in Ancona. He returned to Poland after Wettyn's restitution in 1709. Załuski died on May 1, 1711 in Dobre Miasto in Warmia. He left numerous letters, political speeches, sermons, letters and translations. He edited and published the collection Epistolae historico-familiares (1709-1711, 1761). Załuski's career was supported by Primate olszowski and the Sobieski family. According to his supporters, Załuski was a man of broad mental horizons who seryed as an active senator at the reign of Jan III Sobieski and August II. He was an envoy in relations with Spain and Portugal, and negotiated the marriage of Teresa Kunegunda Sobieska with Maksymilian Witeisbach. He actively participated in senatorial conferences and Senate Councils (16). In foreign policy, the Chancellor was rather anti-Russian. He criticized the functioning of the Sejm and presented reform projects (MPs'oath, or secret ballot by majority). He was a professional public speaker, excellent orator and great preacher. "l didn't scandalize in anything" - the words quoted in the tide were uttered by Załuski in the Sejm session held in 1685. |
