20 lat cyklu konferencji „Magnateria Rzeczypospolitej w XVI–XVIII wieku”

Abstract

For more than twenty years, the conferences in the series “The Magnates of the Commonwealth in the 16ᵗʰ–18ᵗʰ centuries” have enjoyed unflagging interest. Scientists from various research centers from both Poland and abroad have descended on the conference proceedings. A total of 255 papers were presented. Initiated in 2002 by Prof. Ewa Dubas-Urwanowicz and Dr. Jerzy Urwanowicz, the enterprise resulted in six post-conference publications. On their pages appeared 213 scientific articles, which in a diverse way present the treatment of “magnate” issues. This is a valuable collection of research on this social group, which was present in every aspect of life at the time. The compilation of published works makes it possible to indicate what the current state of research on the magnates looks like. The analyses show that the best studied period is the 17th century, and the territorial scope is primarily concerned with the total lands of the Republic of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The subject was equally addressed in general and with specific families. Of the 52 families, the largest number of works were devoted to the Radziwill family, with the Zamoyski family in second place. This article pays tribute to the originators of the series Prof. Ewa Dubas-Urwanowicz and Dr. Jerzy Urwanowicz, thanks to whom research on the magnate social layer has developed.
