Abstract

In the face of new work possibilities (especially after Polish accession to the European Union) many spouses decide to go abroad and live away from their family. There are many consequences of such decisions. These are, among others, changes within traditional family perceived as community, which further takes on various faces. There are families which despite the separation managed to maintain strong emotional ties and other features of family togetherness, and those which lost these features. These families disintegrated or still function but in different spheres, only as relations of different people and situations. l find the reasons for the formation of various migration family types in the features of today's world. They stem from social factors determined by such experiences of the postmodern world as: dynamics of social change, taking risk in all spheres of life, individualization as a possibility for a change and as a form of dependence in all spheres of life, multitude of possibilities, lack of continuity of tradition, diminished role of family as a legitimizing - controlling institution, the imperative of correcting ("bettering") one's life, dispersion and diversity of life environment, aspiration to high quality of life in all spheres of life, social consent to behavior and forms of lifestyle ranging from alternative to traditional ones, number of other factors, consumerism, space and geographical mobility.
