Abstrakt: It is unquestionable that harmonious development of a child is not possible without loving parents who fulfil their duties of care and education properly. However, when the family is involved in conflict, breakup or other paradigms then it is malfunctioning and pathological and therefore the child development is unstable or even impossible. In such a situation, the activity of educational institutions that help children and teenagers "to become" as well as to get to know themselves and the world is of vital importance. Families that are malfunctioning in terms of educational care as well as pathological families are aided by the social therapeutic centres. A rich educational offer of these centres supports the optimal development of the subjects and thus compensates for educational defidency. Moreover, constant contact with the guardians facilitates children pedagogization. The subjects' individual needs and abilities are taken into accont in various activities offered by the centres. Sociotherapy, pedagogical therapy, pedagogy of play, artetherapy are included in the every day schedule of the centres' activity. Individual pedagogical diagnoses and aforementioned activity enable the subjects to reduce learning problems, to overcome fears, prejudices, behavioural disorders as well as prepare children and teenagers for social life. The centres' offer is directed to subjects at different age - from kindergarten to middle school. The oldest subjects have fond recollections of the time spent in the social therapeutic centre. Among them, there are the subjects who are secondary school students. The others have started a family. The therapists from the Białystok Day Care Centre remember their subjects' first steps in the centre, which they made in kindergarten or as the pupils in primary school. Although many years have passed, they still visit their counsellors and talk about their joys and worries. Their small achievements and success are of great importance for the therapists. As a person being both a theoretician and a practitioner I wish to emphasize that there are no children without future. The oncs who have experienced unpleasant things at home find a helpful hand in social therapeutic centres. Therefore, we do not need to doubt in the proper development of the child from the family at risk or socially excluded family.
