Abstract

Every civilization focuses on the phenomenon of the existence of a human being. The life of a child deserves special love and care because children require to be looked after, educated and developed. In this process the role of a woman-mother is irreplaceable. There are various conditions of children's personal development. Personality is shaped in a different way in the conditions of security and peace and in a different way in war conditions and when the sense of security is in danger. The life of a known war activist Irena Sendlerowa shows the importance of a woman's role in the process of upbringing. The analysis is dane within the context of the extreme conditions of the Second World War when Sendlerowa set an example of heroic dedication to children, especially the Holocaust victims. Because of the lack of autobiographical sources the research is based on the accounts of those whose lives were saved thanks to Sendlerowa's dedication and heroism. The main issues under discussion in the article are: 1. Life of a child as the greatest value, 2. In defence of a child's dignity, 3. The testimonies of the saved children. Irena Sendlerowa's life and heroic attitude towards children experiencing hardships may be an example for those who are concerned about the littlest members of human society. It is necessary to talk about and show patterns, deeds and attitudes of great advocates of children's rights. Undoubtedly, Sendlerowa is one of them.
