Oskarżony Alfred Szklarski

Abstract

The presented text is an attempt to look into a difficult subject of so called intellectual collaboration of Poles during the World War II on the example of journalistic activities of Alfred Szklarski - one of the most prolific and popular authors of youth literature after 1945. After his debut in "Nowy Kurier Warszawski" in December 1939, Szklarski became a full-time employee of the editorial office of the monthly "Fala" and the weekly "7 Dni". His novels in chapters, short stories, column articles and reportages were published till December 1944, also in other magazines entirely controlled by Germans. As a consequence of these activities, he was persecuted and sentenced to prison in January 1949. Examination of both materials stored in the archives of the National Institute of Rememberance - records related with the investigation and the court case as well as other documents from the years 1948-1949 linked with the law suit against Alfred Szklarski and other so called reptile journalists (mainly from "Nowy Kurier Warszawski" issued in the occupation period) - and the first, published in the years 1946-1948 and completely forgotten Szklarski's novels, made it possible to reveal some of the secrets from the writer's biography.
