Poza prawem. System funkcjonowania cenzury w PRL

Abstract

Censorship in the People's Republic of Poland functioned beyond the law. It was not legal acts but the very authorities of the Polish Workers' Party, and later the Polish United Workers' Party, who defined what was allowed or not allowed to be published. The obliging norms were vague in terms of their logics - this is why, any information uncomfortable to the authorities could be suppressed. Efficiency of the censorship system was guaranteed by the - never formally written down - rule of "delegating authorization" of censors. The authors themselves, but first of all, managers of editorial offices and scientific or cultural institutions, were obliged to make sure that information prohibited by the authorities was not disseminated.
