Obserwatorzy, krytycy, ,,towarzysze podróży". Przekłady z literatur zachodnich a cenzura (1956-1964)

Abstract

The text is devoted to the censorship of the 20th century Western European and American prose centred around socio-political issues in the years 1956-1964. The reconstruction of censorship practices against western fiction (on the basis of the reviews of works by Simone de Beauvoir, H. G. Wells, Sartre, Faulkner and others) allows to provide a more general ideological and aesthetic pattern prevailing in the Main Office of Control of Press, Publications and Shows ('engaged', humanistic and realistic prose acting as a positive reference point), identify the most important political issues and also ideologically 'shared areas' that could be found in the Western works (criticism of fascism, social-mindedness, condemnation of colonialism).
