Irydiona boje z cenzurą

Abstract

The article takes up a subject which was typical of the 19th century literature but omitted in hitherto works devoted to Irydion: relations between dramatic works and institutions of censorship. Krasiński's correspondence proves that he was particularly sensitive about that issue, and his opinions about censorship determining the artist's work are present with exceptional intensity precisely in the period of writing his play about the Greek avenger. Further parts of the article touch up on such problems as auto-censorship and its consequences to the work (anonymity, literaty mystification, lack of creative documentation) as well as censorship's influence on the reception of the play (prohibited dissemination of the Parisian edition and local reprints). Political restrictions also affected the dramain the People's Republic of Poland which finds reflection in both research works dedicated to the piece and its disproportionally limited publishing in comparison with editions from the first half of the 20th century.
