Грузино-польские отношения в воспоминаниях грузинских деятелей (Акаки Церетели, Илья Чкония)

Abstract

Despite the considerable geographical distance between Georgia and Poland, Georgian-Polish relations have always been special. Georgian-Polish relations became especially strong and intense in the 20s and 30s of the 19th century. This rapprochement has become even more signifi cant in the field of culture. A few notable Georgians translated the works of Polish writers. On the other hand, in the 1840s, Kazimir Lapczynski translated the masterpiece of Georgian poetry, “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” into Polish. But the history of Georgian-Polish relations is marked by the memory of the great Georgian poet, Akaki Tsereteli, written by his Polish teacher, Rodziewicz. The brotherly love and relations between Georgians and Poles are also described with great love and respect in the book My Day and Village by the writer Ilia Chkonia, who worked in the second half of the 19th century. As is argued in the article, Georgian-Polish relations are based on a solid foundation and, it is to be hoped, will continue to be so in the future.
