Abstract

We wstępie omówiono ważniejsze filmy, w których mapa prowadzi do ukrytych skarbów. Wykazano, że w filmie Złoto MacKenny mapa spełnia ważniejszą rolę. Nie tylko dokumentuje miejsce ukrycia złota, lecz wskazówkami dotarcia do niego bezpośrednio wpływa na losy bohaterów. W kolejnym rozdziale zamieszczono streszczenie filmu. W rozdziale Mapa jako bohater filmu podano definicje pojęć literackich, jak utwór literacki, dzieło literackie, bohater utworu, postać literacka. Wykazano, że bohater utworu literackiego nie musi być osobą, nie musi w nim często występować, a także może nic nie mówić. Wykazano także, że film jest działem literackim. Biorąc pod uwagę, że mapa w sposób bezpośredni lub pośredni wiąże się ze wszystkimi postaciami utworu autor udowadnia, że jest ona bohaterem filmu Złoto MacKenny.

The aim of this article is to demonstrate that, with the use of reasoning typical of science, it can be proved that a map is a protagonist in the movie Mackenna’s Gold. This is a 1969 American Western directed by J. Lee Thompson. The ensemble cast features such movie stars as Gregory Peck, Omar Sharif and Telly Savalas. The plot of the film revolves around a map leading to the location of hidden gold – the legendary Apache treasure. The map has a significant impact on the fate of the protagonists. The information contained in it saves their lives in the desert by pinpointing the location of a water tank. The clues on the map guide them through the wilderness of America’s Southwest and eventually show a hidden entrance to a valley with gold. Methods of proof applied in the set theory were used to demonstrate that the map is the protagonist of Mackenna’s Gold. Generally accepted definitions of the following terms were used: literary work, protagonist of a literary work, literary character, and the following lemmas were applied: 1. A protagonist of a literary work does not need to be a person, 2. The protagonist does not have to appear frequently in the work, 3. The protagonist does not have to speak, 4. A feature-length film is a literary work, 5. The map in Mackenna’s Gold “remains in the greatest number of connections with other characters and directly or indirectly participates in all the events of the work”. As a result, it can be concluded that the map is the protagonist of Mackenna’s Gold.
