Abstract

Główną częścią artykułu jest analiza oraz zaprezentowanie motywów, chwytów literackich i decyzji konstrukcyjnych, które Jan Andrzej Morsztyn stosuje w napisanym w 1650 roku wierszu Do Stanisława Morsztyna, Rotmistrza Jego Królewskiej Mości, będącym w zasadniczej części katalogiem trunków pochodzących z różnych części Europy. Celem tych zabiegów jest odsłonięcie przemyślanej i subtelnej gry literackiej oraz głębokiej warstwy aksjologicznej ukrytej w tekście pozornie błahego utworu, a opartej na wyobrażeniach geograficznych i aksjologicznych autora. Za pomocą owej literackiej mapy tematycznej Morsztyn tworzy swoistą wizję Europy, w której posługuje się symboliką enologiczną oraz zabiegami kartograficznymi, aby zaznaczyć przynależność lub wykluczenie z cywilizacji spod znaku tradycji śródziemnomorskiej.

The poetic letter by Jan Andrzej Morsztyn, Do Stanisława Morsztyna, Rotmistrza Jego Królewskiej Mości, is in its essential part a catalogue of alcoholic beverages from various parts of Europe. Yet, the poet by no means limits himself to simple enumeration; he uses the origin of alcoholic beverages to create a thematic map that could even serve as a guide for thirsty travellers. This article aims to demonstrate the way in which Morsztyn organizes the text of his work by means of cartography, as well as the specificity of the semantic layers that the author creates or signals in this way. Morsztyn reveals his valuation of European space focused on the South and its relation to his native North, hidden behind the literary structure introduced into the poem on a symbolic and visual level. The article also shows an excerpt from Morsztyn’s own metacartography. However, the map in this text is not only an autonomous structure; apart from its inherent values, it is also functionalized by the Polish poet to meet the requirements of the strategy for the enumerative poem and undertake a game of meanings with the reader. As a consequence, the poem takes on additional qualities, making the entire work a coherent and well-thought-out whole organized around inherently cartographic representations.
