As it is well known, the floor mosaic in the former Byzantine church in Madaba took the form of a map that represents the Holy Land, with Jerusalem at its center. It was created in the second half of the sixth century and intended for Christian pilgrims who came to see the places connected with the events described in the New Testament. In this article the author tries to draw attention to one of the problems related to the assessment of the importance of this unique iconographic monument: that this monument bears witness to the completion of a long process of Christianization of the old biblical territory.pl
