Abstract

The article deals with the history of Richelieu Lyceum in Odessa in the context of the development of education system in the south of Russia as a whole. Author draws attention to the inner system of Lyceum, system of disciplines in it, those processes, which determined changes in the life of the Lyceum. Author examines the connection between the Richelieu Lyceum and Masonic lodges. A significant part of the article is devoted to the scientific life of the Lyceum, as example – the works by one of it’s teachers K. Zelenetsky in the field of literary theory and history, Poetic’s and Rhetoric’s. Attention is drown to the fact that the main scientific principle for Zelenetsky was the corresponding of images of life in the literary work to the national character. Question about the impact of teacher’s scientific activities on students of Lyceum (forming of their interests and their success in science area) solves in the article. The names of students who have been awarded for their scientific works lists in the article. The author describes the publishing activities of the Lyceum, the structure and content of “Novorossiysky calendar” which included several thematic parts: information about the holytides of different confessions, administrative division of the Novorossiysk region, popular science information, etc. A considerable place in the article is devoted to literary life of Richelieu Lyceum: to poetic work of students, range of their reading, influence of meetings with writers (for example, A. Pushkin) on their literary tastes. Literary almanacs and magazines, in creation of which students of Lyceum participated, are named. Author of the article lists the names of Richelieu Lyceum students, that began professionally to engage in translations, criticizing and literary activity. Attention applies on connection between strengthening of interest of students of Lyceum to reading and development of book trade in Odessa. The article is completed by a thesis about continuation of scientific and literary traditions of Richelieu Lyceum by the modern students of philological faculty Odessa National University.
