Abstract

The goal of the article is to investigate the change in the definition of non-place regarding the studies on affectivity. The aforementioned category, proposed by the French researcher Marc Auge, is a type of a lack of representation in space. The analyzed term is associated with a place being deprived of its subjective identity and morphed into an element void of significance, deprived of historicity and affectivity. Auge shows transitive areas as examples for the non-places of supermodernity. Increased research regarding the trauma of World War 2 helps discover a possibility of understanding non-places, which acquire a new, memorial aspect and may be interpreted regarding affectivity. The examples cited: Minor Extermination by Anna Janko and Blinded by the lights by Jakub Żulczyk are analyzed regarding a specific understanding of non-places. I would like to present a notion regarding a new connection between the described category and the postmemorial discourse, as one of the article's conclusions.
