Abstract

This article, which complements the text of Feelings of Romantic Epistolographers builds on the history of objects that have become symbols of the Western World civilization. Starting from the things that are the source of emotional experience, he tries to analyze the antinomy: here (in exile) - there (in homeland). Reflection around the reasons for the variety - that interestingly! - is valuing these two, extremely different spaces perceived in contexts: material, cultural, moral, etc., can justify the thesis that longing has not always resulted in idealization of the ancestral country, and elementary honesty, cognitive curiosity, personality conditioning, are factors that have facilitated the freedom of prejudices and stereotypes to appreciate the beloved to the heart places, but also that imposed ones. Objects, not only symbolized, recollected, but they also accompanied. WERE, in strange, new, intruded places. Their loss, became a loss of all relations with the past, with all that is precious, important, and loving. Depending on the exile attitude towards the new re ality, the items acquired various new functions. Beginning with the role of the Western World civilazation symbols, memorabilia of the past allowing not only to live on memories, but to create illusion of the presence of the past in the new reality, as was the case with Pietraszkiewicz, through his role as a link with what is dear and beloved, the role of memory, but without trying to deny the present, without illusoriness, which was the characteristic feature of Ewa Felińska and Adolf Januszkiewicz attitude.
