Abstract

Anorexia nervosa is one of the most dangerous consequences of a postmodern treatment of the body as a project - an object that can (or even should) be constantly creating, bestowed special care and attention. According to psychologists, eating disorders are inseparably associated with low self -esteem, need for acceptance, fear, lowered mood and inability to cope with emotions. The debut novel of Marty Syrwid The Back shows the whole spectrum of emotions related to obsessive work on own body - both the underlying source of such needs (disturbed emotional bond with your loved ones, low self-esteem, the need for control), as well as appearing in the course of the disease (shame and guilt appearing alternately with satisfaction and pride). In this paper its author would like to introduce, how writer describes these feelings which compose the drama of anorexia.
