Abstract

The article is devoted to understanding of pure art’s concept in literary manifestos of courtly mannerists. Their аesthetic views are considered in correlation with Oscar Wilde’s ideas and the defenders of the art’s autonomy in Russian literary criticism. It is noted that сourtly mannerists follow the main concepts of the English writer: aestheticism, criticism of realism, exalting of imagination’s role in the works, the idea that life imitates art and others. The attention is also paid to the differences in the understanding of the art’s essence by courtly mannerists and Oscar Wilde. The article states that in contrast to the numerous quotes from the works of Oscar Wilde the сourtly mannerists do not refer to the interpretation of pure art’s concept. However, there are typological similarities between their views. This applies primarily to the understanding of Russian literature’s mentality and identity. The Order’s manifes tos emphasize that the Russian writers focus on civil issues. It is alleged that in the late twentieth century courtly mannerists are among those artists, who argue the relevance and viability of pure art’s idea.
