Abstract

The article deals with the peculiarities of the representation of the clash of the Western and Islamic civilizations, global terrorism, the threat of the Islamization of Europe, the irrationality and immorality of Islamism and terrorist acts in M. Amis’s works. The author raises an issue of the Europeans’ decentralization stipulated by national minority rights, political correctness and tolerance reduced to a renunciation of the self-preservation instinct. According to Amis, the religion and culture of Islam represent a threat to civilization as we understand it, so he writes about a new battle – not between different religions or countries, but between different centuries. The twentieth century of ideologies is not as bad as the twenty-first century of religions can be because one of the most dangerous presumptions of religion is that death is not the end of life for a person. This is what makes Islamists a new type of enemy because they regard life and the world merely as an episode, an illusion on their way to their true goal – death, which for them means immortality in Paradise. Thus, death is the only motivation that Islamists have in their lives.
