Abstract

The aim of the research is to reveal the genre and stylistic peculiarities represented in the dystopia Animal Farm (1945) by George Orwell. The story contains vivid allusions to the Soviet Russian reality of Stalin epoch. The topicality of the study is predetermined by the wide range of international contacts which are being established between nations today. Except international business these contacts include interactions in the fields of culture, education, and literature. The topicality of the research is also preconditioned by the current society interest in dystopian literature in general, and the fairy tale Animal Farm, in particular, as Orwell’s story touches upon universal society problems. Animal Farm contains recognizable allusions to real historical regimes. At the same time, the author was able to foresee social events and political systems which are currently in force in some countries. Animal Farm is a bitter satire on the ideas of brotherhood and equality. George Orwell chooses, at the first glance, the simplest but at the same time the most symbolic genre which is a fairy tale. There are a lot of critical views expressed on the main idea of the story. In the majority of cases, critical overviews are focused on Orwell’s displease of totalitarian regime. At the same time, representatives of Western literary criticism provide direct allusions to the dystopia Animal Farm, social and political events, and hard time of Soviet nation after Bolsheviks’ rebellion of 1917 when Stalin came to power.
