Kontekstualizm zamazujący postmodernizmu we Freedom and Limitation (1985) Jana Świdzińskiego

Abstract

Art as Contextual Art (1975–1976) by Jan Świdziński is a doctrine which attempted to overcome the tautological model of art created by Joseph Kosuth in the belief that artistic expression is intensional and occasional, and the meaning (trueness and acceptability) depends on the context. However, the author himself, being involved in collaboration with the Communist Security Service in the years 1953–1959, made contextualism not only a tool to recover reality after linquistic turn of conceptualism, but also a way to relativise the context and thereby reduce the embarrassing episodes of his own biography – as if drawing attention to a different context. Thus, this is how we should take – as another act of social derivation – his reception of postmodernism around 1984, when he used nihilism and salutary for him deferring work of difference that caused the context to lose its clarity.
