Образ Одессы в лирике Вениамина Бабаджана

Abstract

In the article is looked the poetry of Odessa period of Veniamin Babadzhan. Veniamin Babadzhan is forgotten name in the literature. He was born in 1894 year in karaite family. From the period of the study in gymnasium he was interested in art and literature. His first painting was created in 1913. Later he was accepted to the military service in lance corporal rank. In a year he was discharged in stock. He asked to be accepted to Art school, but entered to the faculty of law of Imperial New Russian University. From 1914 till 1918 he was on military service. In this period he wrote poetry, took photos, wrote diary. All these art practices helped him to save his identity in difficult social conditions. In 1916 his first book of poetry was printed. In that book he depicted the everyday life during the war. As a painter Babadzhan exposed his painting “The portrait of the girl” at the exposition of Independent artists in Odessa in 1917. He took art lessons in Alexandra Exter’s workshop. Veniamin Babadzhan is one of the creators of Odessa publishers “Omfalos”. In January of 1919 Babadzhan went to the volunteer army, in December he was shoot up. The image of Odessa in his poetry is bright and integral. Author depicts the beauty of Odessa nature in autumn and winter, the specific character of social and everyday life. We can make a conclusion that author was interested in philosophical questions, human relations and feelings. Many of his poems have special value, because they were created in difficult social and political conditions.
