Eliza Orzeszkowa w nauczycielskiej odsłonie

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to present Eliza Orzeszkowa as a person who took care of a group of adolescents, at her house in Grodno, in order to educate them. Despite her lack of experience, both as a parent and as a teacher, she used her knowledge intuitively. Her involvement and love for these young people had astonishing results. In their adult lives, her students followed their teacher’s values and views. The unpublished correspondence between Orzeszkowa and her beloved “paniutka” provides evidence. Orzeszkowa was not only teaching, but also educating. She created “Lekcje” (“Lessons”) which had not been analysed yet. „Lekcje” is a collection of notes and lectures in history, art and literature. It was prepared for the purpose of conducting lessons for teenagers and discussions with them. The axiological context of the collection was very important. Eliza Orzeszkowa had a vocation to be a teacher, since she was able to reconcile educational requirements with love and friendship.
